ELOPEMENT STORY . Ava + Jackson

It’s hard to believe what productions weddings have become in todays world. The range in which they can come. Its a very dynamic and ever shifting industry. I know that during my parents generation and elopement meant you were trying to hide your marriage, trying to do something in secret that you didn’t want people to know about. I have watched a shift in the last 4 years that I have absolutely fallen in love with as a photographer, and as a groom to be some day. Elopements have taken on a different meaning for my generation. It has become a way to make your wedding more intimate, more personal, more meaningful, more about the essentials. It have shifted from this big secret, to something that you want to share with only those that you hold dear. So many time I have brides that are anxious, or worried about how the day will go. Will everyone show up, will it rain, will it be to hot, cold or will everyone like what I have done? It’s in these moments that I tend to sit my bride down, ask them to take a few breaths, and remind them that as long as the first two rows (family, and closest friends) are filled and they are married to their fiancé at the end of day it will be a success. Elopements now have become just that, a wedding that encompasses the first two rows and your fiancé. They also tend to be in some pretty beautiful locations!!
When Ava and Jackson reached out to me two weeks ago and asked me to document their elopement I was over the moon. Ever since Courtney + Dom’s wedding, close friends and past clients, I have wanted to secretly shoot with Ava and Jackson!! The way they just smiled was genuine to me. From the time that I showed up to their apartment Ava was nothing but ear to ear smiles. If I could choose one style that I could make a niche it would be elopements. I was able to just watch these to embrace and understand the depth in which their decisions had while they were making them. During their vows, which were in front of breath taking 100ft waterfall, I backed up and allowed them to just focus on each other. To watch as the sweetest tear I have seen fall from Jackson’s face as Ava finished her vows took me back. I didn’t hear what was said but I did see every tear, and every smile that came because of these words. This was one of my favorite shoots, wedding, elopement I have been apart of. Thank you Ava and Jackson for allowing me to be there on the opposite end of the camera while you two embraced each other and your future together.
